The autumn leaves have begun gathering against the curb, and I like to step in them when I leave my apartment to get in my car each morning. They crunch so nicely. The air has had a bite in it when I wake up, and today I pulled out my fingerless gloves (finger numbness prevention–I have bad circulation in my hands).
God has exhibited His faithfulness to me again and again over the last weeks. I’m in awe of His goodness, His life, and His willingness to come find me when I run!
Beautiful
The world around us reflects the gospel of God.
When I was a little girl, winter was my favorite season. I loved my blue nightgown with the snowflake print. I loved waking up in the middle of the night to the house being so cold that I didn’t want to get out of bed. I loved waking up hours later to smell the unique scent of the heater and dance through the bright morning.
Now, I’m cold from November through March, and I have to wake up before the heater has warmed up the house. So my favorite season has transitioned to fall. I love the sound of the crunchy leaves. I love the color vibes. And I love the fact that the world preaches the gospel to me simply through the seasons.
Autumn. Winter. Spring. Summer.
Death. Tomb. Life. Growth.
Autumn is the most poignant, I think. Everything screams of death. The crinkly leaves. The trees that cannot hold onto their foliage. The harvest that, if not taken up, will wither and die in the fields. But it’s the most beautiful kind of death you can imagine. So colorful. So real. So symbolic.
Did you know that the buds that will bring forth leaves and flowers in the springtime begin to form in the autumn? We wouldn’t have spring without fall.
Theological
The first half of Psalm 107:2 reads, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” I can’t stop thinking about it.
Recently, the Lord has laid evangelism, missions, and testimony at the top of my heart and the forefront of my mind. Again and again, He has confirmed my calling to me. Go and tell. I’ve been thinking specifically about the power of testimony.
“Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” What does it mean to “say so?”
I love plopping down across from a friend and telling them of the ways the Lord works in my life, like the time I felt guilty for throwing away an old backpack when I’d just bought a new one, and the old backpack broke (the Lord loves giving good gifts to His kids). Or the way He’s been reteaching me some old familiar lessons in a gentle, “hey, you know this one,” sort of way. I love when my friends share with me the way they see the Lord moving in their lives, and I love telling them where I see Him in mine.
Testimony can be such an effective form of witness. One of the foremost principles of storytelling is “show, don’t tell,” and I think the same could be said of evangelism. Let me show you how God has worked in my life which hopefully will give you a desire for Him to work in yours, also.
Writing is another way that I “say so.” With each story I write, I wrestle with God somehow. He always answers, and oftentimes the process of writing a story shows me exactly what He’s said. Either way, the finished story results in me telling the world (or sometimes just the Lord) what He has done.
How do you, “say so?” Do you “say so?” The world is saying so, from the believers who can’t help but preach His name, to the stories we love without knowing why, to the autumn leaves telling of a death that will be undone.
Christ is making all things new, not just His people. He’s redeeming creation, and creation, whether the rocks, or the autumn trees, or the Ella Roses, is saying so.
A Verse To Take With You As You Go...
“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul.” Psalm 66:16
